Golden Globes 2020 Red Carpet Recap

You’ve seen it on tv, insta and twitter, but if you happened to miss it, the red carpet rolled out for the Golden Globes last night. Ricky Gervais hosted in his usual derisive manner that seemed to upset all of the attendees throughout his comedic charade.  On a personal note, I appreciated a few of his fatalistic quips but was more thrilled when Kate McKinnon spoke on Ellen Degeneres paving the way for LGBTQ movement, Michelle Williams used the stage to eloquently speak on women’s rights, and when Bong Joon Ho declared that a one inch tall barrier of subtitles shouldn’t hold anyone back from broadening their film consumption. There were more pivotal moments but I am going to circle back to the fashion now….

Zoey Deutsch in custom Fendi.

Deutsch’s stylist Elizabeth Stewart pulled the right move here with this custom Fendi pantsuit and its plunging neck, billowing bishop sleeve and wide in the most beautiful golden hue. Complimentary sapphire jewelry and a clean chop completed the look.

Scarlett Johansson in custom Vera Wang.

This look is stunning and suits her. I love the classic column shape contrasted by the massive back bow detail. Her hair simple hair and makeup and classic diamond jewels allow the crimson colored gown to be the star of the show!

Jody Comer in Mary Katranzou.

Chic and bold in an emerald A-line puff sleeve gown. Side swiped hair and elegant diamond clusters keep this dress as the standout which not just anyone could pull off as elegantly as she does.

Kerry Washington in Altuzarra.

This look is completely opposite of Altuzarra’s generally conservative french style. Super chic and sexy. I love it.

J.Lo in Valentino.

She likes to make a statement and half of the time it works but not this time. I think Valentino has been off beat for a few seasons but this is flat out terrifying. Too much volume and the wrong color combination. The jewelry would have looked better with a classic black gown, and the hair is so overdone. Braids are for daytime, not the red carpet, and multiple rows of tightly braided extensions just shouldn’t be done. Ever.

Ellen DeGeneres in Celine.

Hedi is pushing Celines’ understand classicism to new heights but Ellen looked ready for the night in this shimmering pantsuit and oxfords.

Tom Hanks in Tom Ford…

Is totally deserving of the Cecil B. Demille award and this classic velvet tux.

Sienna Miller in Gucci.

This silhouette is a tough one to pull off but when you look like SM, you can do it. The pastel, retro color story in gorgeous silk draping feels cool but formal.

Bel Powley in Miu Miu.

I like how she chose this lady like periwinkle statement on the red carpet.

Gwyneth in custom Fendi.

Did I save the best for last? Depends on who you ask. To me, Gwyneth looks like perfection in this tucked, tiered and layered Fendi gown. The heavy diamonds layered under delicate tulle, the sheer sienna color and her straight hair slicked back certainly stands out- and I don’t care that her backside was out for the world to see. This entire look knocked it our of the park for me, although I think Gwyneth would look chic in a paper bag….

The Blues

_DSC0593_DSC0588_DSC0628_DSC0624_DSC0603_DSC0634

These photos are from last month when it was sunny, humid and hot af. This dress got me through many summer days and was the perfect piece to fit a growing belly. I bought it in my usual size and since it is an umpire waist with ruching, it grew with me until I grew out of it at the very end of summer, at about five and a half months. Finding a great chinoiserie inspired or other type of beautiful print elevates and completes an outfit. Rounding it out I added a tied bandana worn as a head band and mustard slides. It’s time to pack this away and revisit next summer. Hope ya’ll had the perfect warm weather season. x

Invest in What You Love

Invest in what you love. You will wear it.

I am guilty of buying inexpensive pieces that I “kind of” like because the price is enticing and it’s of the moment, maybe even too much so. The dress I am wearing in this post is one of my favorite purchases ever. And yes, I am that crazy person who keeps a mental inventory of their closet and most loved items. I remember how I felt the moment I saw it: true love. I had to have it.

Simone Rochas and J Brand did a collaboration a few years back and I totally missed it online and in stores. I found this perusing the designer/contemporary floor at Century 21* and could not walk past it. Despite its discounted price tag, it was still a substantial purchase for me a few years ago (a few hundred dollars).  But, I absolutely adored the dress, so guess what? I bought it.

I feel put together and chic every time I put it on. It’s architectural yet sweet, universally flattering and like nothing I have seen out there in the attainable price point world, an lbd that’s actually black denim. If you google the collab you can still find items from the collection on ebay and Poshmark. I wasn’t able to find the dress, but the skirt and pant versions are available!

The point I am looking to convey is that it is ok to spend a few more dollars on something that you can foresee wearing for years to come, are able style different ways and makes you feel awesome.

DSCN4681

DSCN4710fullsizeoutput_2326I layered up in monochromatic shades of grey with a chunky snood, double layered sweater, and flannel baseball hat. I love the how the different textures of each grey piece add depth to an otherwise simple outfit.

I have been looking for a baseball hat that was more elevated than sporty but also going to keep my head warm. In comes this baby.  I was finding cute versions online but they were upwards of what I wanted to spend.  I popped into Bloomingdales in soho and found this gem for $35.  I picked up the grey flannel with a light brown leather adjustable piece but she also comes in black and olive.

Knit Snood is old Portolano but love this and this etsy version

Layered Sweater, old Zara but love this for it high low length

What I’m Wearing: December Brights

I scooped this dress at H&M. I love a bold print and wear them year round.

Styled here with denim for a day look but quickly realized it is way better on its own with an ankle boot and tights for these 20 degree days. Points for bare legs if you’re brave. As you can see my legs went uncovered once we went inside!

I wore this dress out to dinner later that night with black tights and these lace up ankle boots. By the way everyone should check out this cozy spot Shalom Japan in Williamsburg for delicious Jewish-Japanese plates.

Dress, wrap version here

Boots

Hat

Vintage gold snake chain, butterfly necklace

As it should be worn but too cold for no tights today!!fullsizeoutput_e4
